I’ll confess that when I originally saw the cover for “The Girl in 6E” I was a little intimidated. The cover sort of flashed like a neon sign broadcasting that picking this story was signing on for something incredibly heavy. The synopsis hooked me and after seeing a lot of promotion for the story through multiple book blogs I took the plunge and jumped in. Boy was I not prepared for what I found, but totally in a good way.

After finishing the book my first thought was “What the hell was that?” I’ll confess that when I originally saw the cover for “The Girl in 6E” I was a little intimidated. The synopsis hooked me and after seeing a lot of promotion for the story through multiple book blogs I took the plunge and jumped in. Boy was I not prepared for what I found, but totally in a good way.

After finishing the book my first thought was “What the hell was that?” I thought on the story for several hours, slowly processing the experience. As a book lover I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to have a book stop me in my tracks and make me reflect. This story is not New Adult or Romance or Suspense or Drama or Erotica. To label this story would be way, way too simple. Much like its main character, “The Girl in 6E” cannot be slotted under one label or definition. It sort of lives and breathes in its own distinct space.

“The Girl” in question is Deanna, or Jessica to her online clients. Deanna doesn’t just battle personal demons, she is her own living breathing snarling box cutter welding monster. With the unique occupational choice of Cam-girl, Deana is able to lock down bloody urges and hide herself away from the world for years. All the safety nets “The Girl” has put in place for herself are yanked away with the introduction of a creepy client, a sweet everyday Joe (or in this case Jeremy), and an innocent girl at risk. The story kicks into high gear with the question “Would you unleash your own personal monster to stop another one?”

I will warn you this is not a read for the faint of heart. For those not in the know, Cam-girl is a sex trade occupation and the author does not hold back on the predilections of Deanna/Jessica’s clients or the various ways the Deanna spends her days and nights.

However, if you’re a brave soul looking to take a break from the norm and experience a story that will make you blush, cringe, and jump out of your seat all at the same time – this is the story for you.

I haven't touched a human in three years. That seems like it would be a difficult task, but it's not. Not anymore, thanks to the internet.

Shelves: dark-twisted, own-it

This is not a romance. This is a somewhat bizarre twisted tale of finding a crazy girl figuring out she's not quite so crazy afterall. I was probably 30% into the book and still had no idea what was going on. I learned a lot about online camming and the types of fetishes people have (can't say I am not disturbed by what whack jobs are out there). The Girl in 6E was not what I expected and there were moments early on where I thought I wouldn’t be able to continue. Cautiously reading comments about this book, I went into it as blind as could be, considering this is not a new release.

Deanna resides in apartment 6E and doesn’t venture out her front door. She has adapted remarkably well to her self-imposed environment and seems at ease with her isolation. It’s an impressive set up she’s established and proud of her succes 4.5 Possibly 5 Stars

Deanna resides in apartment 6E and doesn’t venture out her front door. She has adapted remarkably well to her self-imposed environment and seems at ease with her isolation. It’s an impressive set up she’s established and proud of her success which has the potential to continue for a long time yet to come. All until one client takes it too far and alarm bells start to go off in Deanna’s head.

Driven to do something way out of her comfort zone, she embarks on a mission blinded by the task ahead. It was at this point I was relieved I had continued as the storyline departs from the direction it was heading in. Being a person who reaches for a dark story, this scenario that was starting to unfold (view spoiler) would normally be a deal breaker for me. The only reason I continued was readers I respect had spoken highly of this book. And with the benefit of hindsight, I doubt the suspense would have been the same without the unbearable details early on which pushed my boundaries beyond my tolerance for subject matter.

It wasn’t all dark, there are some caring people Deanna encounters and forms some unconventional friendships with them. I’m hopeful they continue to be a part of the series as you really only skim the surface in getting to know them. It’s through her friendships and determination she pushes her boundaries and the consequence is it opens her mind to the possibilities beyond what she dreamed of.

This series is one of the more expensive ones but I don’t regret paying a bit extra when it turns out to be a good one. Apart from the section of the book I struggled with, the writing kept me on the edge of my seat, heart pounding terrified of what could happen next.

I haven’t felt like this about a book since reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, two different plots but it was the level of suspense and rawness of the subject matter they both shared that took me beyond my comfort zone and each time rewarded with a great story.

I really don't know what to say about this book.

I was a bit confused at time with the 1st person/3rd person narrative. That was mainly because sometimes after the 3rd person narrative it would go back to Deanna like she was there with the person, when we know that she wasn't.

Still, I liked Deanna, Jeremy, Mike, etc...

Not sure that it would be enough for me to continue on with the series though. This one ended on a good enough note for me not to really want more. I will just have to wait and se ...more
