A lot of people fault this book and the writer for her naïveté, blindness, selfishness etc. She definitely wasn't prepared for the trek. She definitely was broken. She definitely hurt her ex-husband with her self-centered self -destruction. The point of her time on the trail - and the point of the book - is the healing process. I like reading about flawed people growing and changing. A memoir from a well-prepared expert hiking the PCT would read like a how-to manual and I have plenty of those al

I am the kind of person that gets a wild idea and runs with it, and that is very much like Cheryl in that aspect. However, I felt she was underwhelming under-prepared for this journey. I read reviews where they felt they missed her a-ha moment and she even admits it didn't happen until 9 years after her excursion. Wild is a decent read, but I had a hard time connecting with Cheryl. I'm glad that this did help her get on a different path than the one she was taking before hiking the PCT.

I started realign the book and was underwhelmed. But I wanted to finish it since there is so much hype about it currently. I decided to listen to the book on CD while I worked. It confirmed for me that I had made the right choice to stop reading the hard copy.
Such a disappointing book. Cheryl makes light of many important values. She makes many poor choices. While I guess hiking the trail is admirable she would have been better off to invest her resources in quality therapy.

Absolutely wonderful, and our bookclub discussion on it was superb. I highly recommend this book! I feel like there is something in it that everyone can relate to!
Mixed feelings. It was well written and engaging, but it wasn't exactly what I expected - which is that she was going to stay in the wilderness for the whole 3 months - she did not. Seemed like she was hopping off at every turn to interact and relax from the hike. Glad I read it though.
