Whilst Elena may seem like the typically overdone blonde, blue eyed, overly perfect character don’t underestimate her. She’s also bitchy and damaged and at times her attitude does come close to a little over the top but she’s real and I think that’s what I liked most about her. This story is gritty and at times dark but wholely enjoyable. I love Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series, but I'm glad I didn't pick up Bitten first, which begins the series, or I might have stopped there. It isn't a bad book; Armstrong has an enjoyable and fairly clean style, it's well plotted and I liked Elena, the protagonist and narrator.

I picked up this book because I was getting tired of reading about vampires but still didn't want to read a normal romance book, and so I went to werewolfs (though the competition was against the Anita Blake series which I plan to read someday... soon I think)
If you're looking for romance, this isn't the book for you. I found that out too late.
Elena, the main character, was bitten by her fiance, Clay, and was turned into a werewolf against her will. Elena, the main character, was bitten by her fiance, Clay, and was turned into a werewolf against her will. Now years later she tries to have a normal, wolf-less life with an older boyfriend. Things come up and she has to go back to the pack.
That's were the whining begins about how she didn't want this life, about how betrayed she feels/felt, how she can't have normal life anymore, how she can't go back to Clay and to how they were before and yada yada yada. Really it's just repeating the stuff with a little change here and there almost every chapter, even the last, which I would call "resolving the whining topics".
You'd think that with all the ranting there would be more romance, like dilemma between which guy to choose, the guys fighting over her (that was more or less, but not the way I expected it to be =__=; big disappointment) and the parts that I would usually find romantic didn't move me a micrometer.
Another big part of the book was about how she changes, again ranting about how painful it is, and about running around in wolf form, hunting and stuff.
Maybe if she had some trauma from her childhood, and I don't mean it by mentioning it "by the way she was abused in foster families", but in going deeper into it, like memories, bitterness, actual anger and not just writing about how she feels anger because of her child hood.
In conclusion I didn't feel sympathy with the character because the writing didn't affect me on emotional level, and I had to make myself finish this book because there are too many things I don't finish and keep dragging them. One of the best urban fantasy novels I've ever read. I completely adored the storyline, I adored the characters, and I have a weak spot for werewolves.

This book one in the series so it was kinda slow (very slow for me) i had to make myself keep reading it .

For a starter it was good but there was nothing new , no surprises and no twists .
I hope it gets better next book but if not i don't think i'll read more of this series . ...more
