It is truly amazing, with all the vampire books I have been devouring lately, that it took me this long to read the one that kind of sets the standard for vampires.
The story is chilling in that wonderful , creepy Victorian way. More than the presence of the monster, what scares me the most is the sheer isolation of the place and time. This book has to one of the best books I have ever read. I love gothic horror and this ticks all the right boxes, its quite scary in parts and the transylvanian scenry is described beautifully. It is a good way of looking at the London during this time period, the horror of Dracula interperates the horror of the industrial revolution, to much change to quickly. Again, another book I would highly recommend.

This moved a bit slowly for me but I did like it. I think that over the years I've been exposed to so many vampire stories that this one seemed pretty tame. It was interesting to read the book that started it all though and I'm sure at the time it must have really freaked people out. I liked the format of journal entries, newspaper articles etc.-found that a pleasant surprise.

Totally enjoyed this on audio! The male reader was amazing -he was so good at the different characters that I completely forgot it was the same guy reading all the roles.
