Right from the beginning, I was hooked! How can you possibly put a book down when the main character is arrested for murder in the first chapter? LOL, I don't know anyone who could. I liked this! Written in the first person, I felt like I was seeing everything through Jack's eyes. His opinions and his takes on his surroundings and the predicament he found himself in was different from what I've read before. Jack Reacher: an impossibly clever fighting machine who appeciates his new found freedom and wants to live an untraceable life. He pays cash for everything, keeps moving, and no doubt wanders into many adventures after this one, the first of a series. The first Reacher book, and kind of weak. Reacher just happens to be in the small southern Georgia town where his brother has just been killed, although neither of them has any obvious connection to the place. It turns out to be about counterfeiters, and Reacher does his violent vigilante thing.

This is a page turner and I understand why people like to read Child's books. It does have some graphic violence - as the title suggests. I can also understand the appeal of a lone figure striking out on his own going accross the county by bus with no ID - ending up reluctantly helping a town root out evil and taking revenge on the murder of a loved one.
