I have not finished this book, yet I am more than willing to share my dislike of Diamonds writing style. The chances that I will actually read the whole thing go down daily. I think he probably has some worthwhile things to say, but he uses way too many words to share a small amount of new ideas. I think if it had been a 100 pg essay it would have gotten the same points across and not made me want to yell and throw the book across the room.

I've had a long term desire to read this book, as intimidating as its heft is. Talk about pet killers. Fortunately for me, my son gave me the audio version for Xmas and I've been listening with great enjoyment for the past 10 weeks while commuting. It was as rewarding as I anticipated with a straightforward set of theses and a social scientist's careful compilation of correlative evidence that I found convincing and really interesting. This book is great for anyone who loves history. My favorite chapter was the one on almonds.
