This is a memoir built around food--and as Reichl put it, she decided that instead of pictures she'd give recipes throughout to paint a picture of her relationships. The Author's Note tells us, "Everything here is true, but it may not be entirely factual. In some cases I have compressed events; in others I have made two people into one. I started to read ‘Garlic and Sapphires’ by Ruth Reichl, but didn’t have time to finish it before it was due back to the library. I was really enjoying it, but unfortunately there was not another copy available and I had to go on the wait list. In the meantime, 'Tender at the Bone' WAS available, so I checked it out and started to read.
