This book started out very promising to me in a horrific yet fascinating kind of way. Definitely one of those 'cant look away from a train wreck' situations. But I kept waiting and waiting and halfway through the book I begin to feel disappointed. It didnt deliver for me. At the end of the book I came away feeling like the author was trying to avoid any sort of ending that could be considered "cliche" and so instead went the completely opposite direction. Once you get over the first, grisly depiction of the rape and nurder, there's so much to like in this book. I picked it up on the last night of a holiday in a rented cottage and had to buy it when I got back. The insights into family life and the way the family and wider community deal with the big event are gripping, as is the element of not so much whodunnit but willhegetcaught!
