I liked it. The author is very talented and the premise was pretty original.
BUT...
The first chapter was horrendous to get through. As a mother (and I was pregnant with baby #2 when I read this...BAAAAAAAD choice!) I do not like reading about abuse of children. Also, it was hard to suspend my disbelief. Things wrapped up just a little too conveniently.

I avoided this book when it came out. Such hype! So long on the bestseller list! (am I a book snob?) I finally bought it because it just had to be done, and thought the first half was great. However, about 2/3 of the way through it somehow loses the plot and meanders for a while. And that last bit just doesn't make any sense to anyone who has worked with rape victims. Could not bring myself to read this book for the longest time. It sounded so depressing. Seriously, depressing. I gave this book 3 stars because I'm not quite sure I liked it or not. I think that the story would have run better if the killer had been actually caught rather than the way i

This book was sad, it didn't give me the closure I wanted, but there was something. I have a daughter so it was hard for me to read in places. I think in tragedy families do become torn, and the way the characters handled theirs was what I imagine happens to a lot of families. Different that’s for sure and not a light read, not something I would pick up if you were feeling down yourself.

A friend lent this book to me and I let it sit for quite a while before I picked it up. I'm glad I did pick it up. A very good read and interesting setting.
