I don't know if it's the author or the translator, but the final product in English is absolutely beautiful. And yet, the book never gives off the snobby pretensions of a novel trying to answer too many questions. It is, at heart, a story about a guy and a book, and his attempts to ensure that book becomes a cautionary tale. While I thought the ending was a touch predictable, the novel was wide-ranging, accessible, and meaningful. I loved the descriptions of Barcelona, and found myself enjoying
