I read this after seeing the movie and I actually think the movie was better. There was actually more character development in the movie which hardly ever happens. The back stories of the characters are kind of random and don't do much for the story. I understand that the point of some of them was to draw parallels between their stories and the Jane Austen novels they're reading but they didn't totally work. When I read the beginning of this book in the bookstore I had such high hopes of a fun, modern story with literary supports holding up the writing. It was fun-enough although I couldn't help but feeling let down. It definitely starts strong and peeters out into something really normal. I think there could have been great character development! What a shame it is when an author has such a good idea and then just can't make it.

I LOVED this book. Even though I haven't read Austen in years and probably missed half of the sly witticims, I thought this was a great homage to Austen, peopled with memorable characters and told in a charming manner. It is also another one of those novels that celebrates books, readers, and reading.

Ok, so on the cover it says you don't have to be a fan of Jane Austen to love this book. That, apparently, isn't true in my case. I couldn't even finish it.
