This book surprised me. It actually has a lot of action and I found myself caught up in the narrators words. It begins with seventeen-year-old Sarah Prine's family on the move through the western territories to settle in a new place in Texas. Dissater seems to follow the three or four families as they head for greener pastures and eventually what is left of the family joins a wagon train to return close to their original settlement.

Thiis book is riveting! A tragic look at the life of a pioneer woman and her family, that is beset by indians, disease, injury, rape, and snake bite! They perservere and prosper, but it is the first book of a trilogy so who knows what will happen next!
