Expectations
“Unhinge the Universe”. We wanted to feel this. The shifts in power, the world toppling over and we wanted this story to be more than a history lesson with sex.

Hmn.. Where do I start?
I find this book somewhere in between Special Forces and Skybound, both by Voinov, for lack of better references. Unfortunately, a mix of two mind-blowing books doesn't always yield an even more mind-blowing result. Sadly, Unhinge the Universe lacks the beautiful prose and impact of the short Skybound and the bold slaps of SF.
So, where then, did it leave this book?
Safe.
This book is safe, not exactly heart racing even with all the act ...more

This is a well crafted, written story about enemies becoming lovers in the harsh reality of war. I'm not a fan of insta-love, but their feelings for each other seemed very plausible though it happened in a matter of days. What I really missed, maybe because I had certain expectations, were the raw feelings and skewed perceptions that I suppose should have been inherent to their reality. That was bloody brilliant. I want to read it again right away, and then again. Easily my favourite book of the year so far, and I'd be very surprised if it didn't make my top three.
