Christ! Aleksandr Voinov rocks my freaking world AGAIN!

This author nails it for me. Every. Single. Time. Nobody writes military m/m like this.
Scorpion is a dark(er) military fantasy set in the old empire of Shara, where three cities fight and plot against each other. This is a tale of warriors and nobles and the battles they wage for ultimate power. Politics and skulduggery, power plays with brutal costs and sex - really fierce warrior type sex.
Voinov gives you front row seats to this story. H ...more

Voinov created this rather small, compact world with huge outer fringes. He brought big concepts down to a tightly woven story that led me along an unexpected path. Once I got started on that path, I couldn't stop.
"Hatred had blossomed from the vine of contempt in his heart, flowers of dark, grim splendor."
Voinov's character development once again, shined through. The story has a war torn grittiness that still allowed for characters that were complex, rich and worthy. The main character, ...more

The Voinov gate teleported me in a world made of blazing sun, cicadas and olive trees, leather and steel, blood and dirt, high ideals and raw reality, where Empires and Civilizations are weaved tightly and blend to create a fantasy that I actually found historically accurate! That beats everything, no?

When you read an Aleksandr Voinov book it’s like reading something of extreme and articulate perfection, and he just never ceases to amaze me. This story was brutal and at times it gave me the evil eye twitch, but to be honest I didn’t mind…
I was sucked into this story I wanted to murder Steel and I fell in love with the Officer and Widow oh the list can go on… This is a must read don’t be discouraged from some of the reviews if you enjoyed any of Voinovs novel . then know that he would not fail ...more

Gosh, I'm not going to say much about is other than if you aren't into kings and war and war plans, you won't enjoy this at all. It is well written but not in an area that I know a damn thing about so I couldn't tell you much else about it. Yes, Blacky, for a war novel I guess it has a HEA so to speak.

gimme a minute....
Ok, there are some awesome reviews here that I wholeheartedly agree with.
I'll go with shameless and say, I spent the night in Aleksandr Voinov's head and came out extremely satisfied once again! ...more

Being the first writer to introduce me to the m/m genre it is safe to say that Voinov is one of my favorite authors. It is also safe to say that I’ve grown to expect anything and everything from this author, from romance to explicit erotica and from sci-fi to extreme dark fantasy.
So I expected to dive in this book and not be released from its spell unless it was over, I expected it to rock my world, I expected it to make me feel and intensely so. S ...more
