The last few pages tipped this from 3 to 4 stars for me. The hope and possibility of the ending, and most importantly the theme of becoming your true self, was very touching.
It started a bit slow, way too much world-building for a short work, but ultimately proved satisfying. And I love the idea of the Glyrinny species. I found them unique and truly beautiful.

4.5 stars. This book has excellent world-building, interesting characters with a lot of issues and imperfections, and a well-designed plot. The only reason it wasn't five stars for me was that it felt a bit short. I guess like so many of this excellent writer's stories, I wasn't ready to let these guys go, which is more compliment than flaw.

I hate it when people give 1 star ratings and have never read the book - I prefer to be optimistic ;)
Review to come - when I have actually READ the book :D
Finally read this book :)
I really enjoyed it but it feels kind of unfinished to me. I believe that there should be a sequel because I am still left with a bundle of questions. I want to know how the 'relationship' develops and how it does in such a species that sees with vibrations.

I have to say that this is the first book of Aleks that I did not give 5 stars. But, I want to tell you all why.
I am a huge fan of Aleks and that was the reason I read this, his latest work. So, why didn't I give him 5 stars? Well, I am not a Sci-Fi fan. Many of you would say that I might be being unfair then but to be honest, I wouldn't know good Sci-Fi if it bit me in the ass. However, I do know good writing and Aleks never disappoints. As per Aleks norm, the characters are in depth and suck y ...more

Oh! I did not know about this. Well, I don’t read sci fi. Absolutely not…….but it’s voniov and there is no way I am ever abandoning any of his writing :)

Even if you're not a fan of sci-fi (like me), you can be confident that Voinov will lead you through it all seamlessly, making you feel right at home. Usually I find myself confused by the descriptions, but never with Voinov. Is there such a thing as realistic shape-shifters, intelligent alien species and traveling in space? Now I know there is! :D

This was such an excellent read on so many levels. Well written--goes without saying. It's Aleks Voinov. Twisty, unpredictable plot--check. Setting--thoroughly 3-dimensional yet concisely rendered. The best part, though, IMO, were the characters. Unique and unforgettable. It's a short, quick read, and yet thought provoking and complex, like so much of the author's work. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I deeply loved this book.
Even being short I had not only a strong connection with both main characters (and also WInter, for that matter), but I was able to fully understand and feel them.
Kyle conflicts, his fears and despite everything his will to fight and live, and Grimm's integrity, his strong morals, his good heart.
