Shelves: interesting, science-fiction, read-in-2019, intriguing

Sometimes when I read a book after the hype has passed, I end up wondering what I would have thought of it had I read it at the height of its popularity. This is one of those books, if only because I know so many people who absolutely adore it.

That said, it was enjoyable enough, a solid read. It just didn't blow me out of the water the way that I expected it to. Parts of it dragged for me, and ironically enough some of these were the bits that stuck the closest to the original fairytale. I will ...more

I wasn't sure of what I was getting myself into when I picked up this book, nor how much I would come to love it. I've always loved fairy tales and science fiction, but never considered having these two loves combined into one. When I bought the book, the back cover piqued my interest, but due to having other books to read at the time, it got put onto my list of "books to read" and put on the bookshelf.
