They had me at sentient dust bunnies.
I wasn't sure this book would hold my interest, but it was free so what the heck. Well I'm glad to say that not only did it hold my interest it led me into buying the second book in the series.

I have a mixed relationship with Harmony and the world of these books. While the romances are fun, sort of formulaic as per her characters usually are. Anyways, this on it's own was fun in most parts , eh in a few but considering i put book 2 on my tbr, I liked it enough to rate it 3.
Also, there is one short smex scene, it is tame as compared to what we get nowadays.. BUT... boy did it feel hawt in the context of the book. I didnot expect that little thing in a book written in those times....

Ah, the start of a great series and an interesting world. Lydia and Emmett are great characters and you've got to love the dust bunny. I love that JAK creates new pets based on something somewhat familiar, in her paranormal books. The idea of Ruin Rats is interesting. Lydia is a good, strong character having to rebuild her life after an accident.
