4 stars. This was really awesome. I definitely enjoyed this book way more than We Have Always Lived in the Castle. It’s a slow build but when everything starts to unravel it gets intense and a bit eerie. I liked seeing how the house slowly started to drive Eleanor insane and her unusual attachment to the house. It was fun. The writing was great and the pacing was even and steady enough that I was able to read through this book in just a matter of hours. It was addicting and a lot of fun and perf ...more

I shouldn't be surprised given what the TV show presents. Still...
The phenomenology at the beginning, yes, it is spooky. I can see why Stephen King shows reverence to this book in his Stephen King's Danse Macabre.
The middle part felt a bit rough, like it didn't flow as it should have. The book is a classic, and one can easily understand why.
