“For where all love is, the speaking is unnecessary.”
4 stars. I’m upset that it took me so long to read this book. I had some preconceived notions about it and I had a feeling that I probably wasn’t going to like it. I’m laughing at myself right now because I was so wrong. I really freakin’ enjoyed this.
The writing is fantastic and I loved the setting. The pacing is a bit slow going in the beginning but around 150 pages or so things start to pick up. Claire is a fantastic heroine and I love ...more

The true rating would be 4.5.
A good friend gave me a copy of this and at first I was like it weighs a ton. The story sucked me in and I really enjoyed getting to know Claire and Jamie. And all the history--I loved that. I started Reading this because Diana Gabaldon is so praised everywhere and because I love Scotland and historical novels.
In the beginning I was taken by the beautiful writing and interesting characters but then it got worse and by page 90 I was bored stiff!! And gave up!
Somehow I felt I've read it all before, and THAT is not interesting.
Read some of the * reviews and was relieved for giving up, as it seems to get even worse.
And I'm truly sorry I couldn't like it!!
