I can't call Mur Lafferty a friend, but I listen to her podcast I Should Be Writing where--in addition to Q&As with listeners and interviews with other writers--she talks candidly about her feelings around writing. So, while I only met her briefly at WorldCon (in San Antonio last year), I feel like I know her, in the same way that I feel like I know Marc Maron and Ira Glass (and his crazy dog).

The Shambling Guide to New York was an immensely fun read. I found that I enjoyed just about every character which is a strength of Mur Lafferty's work that I've found with other works by the author that I've read or heard via podcast.
The one scene in the club was a bit of a surprise and nothing I was expecting but fit with the characters involved so my feelings are mixed.

Disappointing. It has a great premise, but bad dialogue and weak characters.
