My son is so far not to enthused by the Martha Speaks books. I rather like the idea of a talking dog, and there's a bit of humor (if not very subtle) in these books, but maybe it's just our bad luck that in the first one we read, Martha Walks the Dog, there's this mean dog that scared the crap out of my 3 year old (I tried to emphasize that in the end the mean dog wasn't really all that mean, but that wasn't enough), and in this Martha Speaks, we get a burglar.
