I don't know, maybe I just don't get it. It got better towards the end, but I really didn't enjoy this book. And its written in such an odd, strident tone I really began to wonder if Moorcock was just taking the p*$$ at some points. ...more

This is a terrific book in which the reader is introduced to the tragic philosopher king Elric Of Melnibone.Instead of the big mighty thewed barbarian of most epic literature Elric as we might expect him to be ala Conan the barbarian he is a frail albino who is an anomaly in his society. We eventually learn over the course of the series why he is fated to be the last king of Melnibone.
