I don’t think it’s possible to give this book anything less than 5 stars. What a ride it has been! I listened to the audiobook version of the author’s preferred edition which has some extra content and absolutely loved it. The narrator of the book did a great job and gave a unique voice to each and every character. No other author has reminded me of JRR Tolkien (in a good way) as much as this author has. I was ok with this book starting off rather slow. I figured it would get to where it was going eventually. I didn't even mind waiting for the boy magician to develop his powers, even though we ALL know that's what this story is about. But when I've read 87% of the book and he STILL is floundering with magic, and it's not a simple 'oh, he just needs more practice' but we are still on the base level of doing really any kind of magic, I start to get really bored and frustrated.
