I've been dying to read this book for years, but due to my terrible inability to read books not in audio format lately, this one's been on the backlog ... until I recently got Audible and find out Snow Crash is an "only from Audible" exclusive.
This book has so much going for it and that's why it's been something at the top of my list.

This is supposed to be a classic of SF. I've tried it several times over the years. I generally forget what it is about & then wind up abandoning it. Did so yet again. I think it is supposed to be funny, but I just find the idea of a Mafia run pizza delivery service stupid. Getting past that is tough & while there seems as if there are some neat ideas coming eventually, the base is too shaky & overblown. Best SciFi book I have read in a long time! As I was reading this, I was reminded of the feeling I had the first time I picked up "Neuromancer" by William Gibson, feeling like someone had cracked into what the future will be and like I could easily be living in this world. Stephenson painted such a realistic view of the future America, it kept me enthralled. The protagonists are amazing, a samurai sword wielding hacker and a 15 year old skateboard courier. I think to really appreciate this book, you've got to do a little research (or reminiscing) on what computers and "the internet" was in 1992, when this book was written. It was before web browsers, long before wifi, before cell phones & pdas, before the first SMS message was sent. Much of what Stephenson portrays here is quite accurate, from the perspective of technological history.
