The world described in this book was amazingly well thought-out and vividly detailed. I really liked that the location was set somewhere that wasn't just your typical Western culture Meg-opolis so common in most sci-fi. The cultural influences and impacts that occur in that region hold great promise, and Bacigalupi handled the intersection well.

What a fantastic book. Bacigalupi writes a dense text that contains many shocking details and clues to a near-future world that seems seems unfortunately all too possible. Sea levels have risen, fossil fuels have run out, and genetic tinkering of food crops has destroyed the planets ecology.
