The Windup Girl had been recommended to me by every online Book related service I belong to, and maybe ad campaigns. And by George am I glad I finally relented. It was everything I love. Weird, but believable tech evolution. Strange remade world, close enough to our own, and yet this Thailand is oh so very different. Sailing ships and high-tech kinetic wind up machines. I was disappointed in this book. It just seemed to drag on for the longest time and really didn't have any action until about a third the way through the book. I didn't feel anything for the characters in the book and the story line was not well jointed together. It just didn't live up to my expectations although the story line did have some potential and interesting segments. ...more
