The main character was annoying in the beginning, and there were times the main storyline seemed to lose sight of the original problem. But overall the future was very realistic, including the cultural changes. And that's what kept me riveted even when a couple scenes seemed slow. The ending was surprisingly poignant.

What was this book about? What was the main plot? I really don't know. Great augmented reality and related stuff, as for the rest... I didn't like it too much, I found all related stories incomplete, boring and/or didn't care about them.
All in all what I hated the most is the impression I got that Mr. Vinge wants to leave TOO MANY things undiscovered or unrevealed using cheap tricks that I always dislike in the Sci-Fi genre, like not knowing who the hell is impersonating a character... but, hey, ...more

Excellent premise, but I couldn't get more than half way through. The writing style and the characters did nothing for me.
