Prior to reading this the only thing I'd read by Le Guin was The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. I have some other works of hers and will be moving them up on my TBR pile.

The novel is set in a dystopian future in Portland, Oregon where George Orr, the main character, has a minor drug problem and a more serious problem
with his dreams -- he has "effective dreams", whereby he seems to be able to alter reality through his dreams, i.e., part of what he dreams becomes
reality. He is sent to a psychiatrist (who turns out to sort of be one of those "mad scientist" types) for treatment. Once the psychiatrist, Dr. Haber, learns
