A dark and dismal future tempered by the love of a father for his son, and that love returned. The pair journey through an ashen land filled with the remnants of civilization, a carcass whose bones are being picked clean by the few remaining survivors of the world's fiery destruction. On their seaward trek, they discover the depths of mankind's decline, and through this the values of caution, patience, trust, and love. I’ve only read one postapocalyptic book before this, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. McCarthy pulled me into the story from the first page. I started it one evening and I stayed up until 2 AM to finish it. It was super easy reading and un-put-downable!

Using a small cast of characters, primarily a father and son, McCarthy shows us what could happen after an apocalypse. This book is not for the faint of heart, but it has an important message. It is above all ...more
