I couldn't stand this book the first time I read it. I usually agree with the consensus with regard to award winners. Will have to give it another try.

I read Hyperion 10 years ago and wasn't real impressed. It is essentially a futuristic Canterbury Tales with six pilgrims each telling their stories on the way to see the deadly Shrike and the Time Tombs. But if I remember correctly, the novel simply ends as they reach their destination. The book is more about the individual stories of the pilgrims. Taken alone it was a decent novel, but nothing special. Taken as the first book in the Hyperion Cantos, it sets up everything to come.
