The Broken Sword is a dark and brooding novel of Norse mythology. It has elves , trolls , leprechauns and Norse gods but different from anything you've read before. Well worth your time if you read about or have seen anything about vikings.

A short fantasy novel that reads like mythology or an epic, and it's of the un-Disneyfied, dark & bloody variety (more so than the likes of GRRM), and somehow, probably its fatalism, Pagan v.s. Christianity theme, & female characters like Freda & Leea & the witch who actually get to do stuff (as is the case in some ancient mythology), reminds me of The Mists of Avalon. IMHO it is not without flaws but overall better than all the recently published "epic" fantasies I've seen.
