After discovering Sanderson through his young adult books, I knew I had to read Mistborn. The people I had met at a signing were quite excited about it but didn't want to spoil anything. I was immediately swept up into the world, the characters, and the incredible system of magic that Sanderson created in this fantastic novel. It took me a long time to get into this book.... like, probably over 50% .... there just didn't seem enough depth and not a huge amount was happening. But once the story got going, oh boy!! It was SO GOOD!!! I think im going to enjoy Sanderson very much!

Mistborn was a great book. Never before have I read an epic fantasy novel that strikes all the right chords for an incredible epic fantasy book (Ie. great characters, interesting universe, intriguing magic system) that has a female character as its primary protagonist. Even as a girl, I'm very used to reading about strong male hero type characters in epic fantasy and I wasn't sure what it would be like with a female character in that role. Wanted to get into Brandon Sanderson but the sheet length of the more epic Stormlight Archive always thwarted my will to read that volume. However, a colleague recommended a shorter piece of work by the same author so I delved in to understand his style.
