One of the best space operas I've ever read! Great purchase, will be buying the rest of the series. Why was this so good?
1. Awesome characters. I've been watching the TV series based on this world, so I was already familiar with the major players. Why cannot all science-fiction be written like this? Not every sci-fi series needs to have complex rules and space-time mechanics at play. The background is simple, yet believable. While most space operas would tell tales of humanity's expansion into the unknown, faster-than-light travel, and battling aliens, this saga is about that near future where humans have just discovered that there is more to Earth and have started building out civilizations in and around the solar system. Freakin' great! The characters were complex and flawed and very real. Had a Firefly element to it, with creepy space horror and interplanetary politics and war. Can't wait for the next one.
