I finally got around to reading this classic. As is often the case, the hype has grown large enough to dwarf the original a little. I think when first published this must have been sensational. That being said, I still loved it, it was very good. Very thought provoking. I'll be chewing it over for a while i suspect.

Uma obra-prima da Literatura e leitura obrigatória para quem gosta do género da Ficção Científica. Muito mais do que uma obra que explora as várias nuances da sexualidade trata-se uma história sobre a missão de um homem num planeta alienígena, estranho, diferente e agreste, que se revela como uma narrativa épica recheada de reflexões sobre aceitação, tolerância, respeito e amizade. A escrita é magistral e a leitura compulsiva. Imperdível!

Fantastic little book about the nature of gender, and the differences it might make in a society of androgynous people.
I have to say that the journey the main character goes through, as he comes to grips with how his gender has shaped his identity, and the general loss of that aspect has shook his foundation of how he views himself was one of the best images I've found in science fiction. I much prefer these character driven pieces as opposed to the GIANT SPACESHIP WITH THE-OH CRAP REVERSE POLAR ...more
