Shelves: dystopian-fiction

An interesting premise of a dystopian world, that is uncovered in layers. Unfortunately most of the characters were undeveloped, and the back story should have been expanded.
Otherwise I do recommend this first work by Howey.

Wool begins with a fascinating premise that only becomes more intriguing as the story moves along. Howey constructs a world in which the remnants of humankind are confined to underground silos with little accurate knowledge of the outside. And his explanation for the how and why of this scenario is a welcome change to typical post-apocalyptic scenarios, one that raises compelling philosophical questions about race, culture and global climate. Howey does a brilliant job of invigorating the dystopian genre to give adults their own unexpected drop into a future wasteland. The pace of storytelling kept me moving quickly forward, as I hungered to understand the how, the what, and the underpinnings of this subterranean world. I look forward to this tale's continuation and to learn what will come of his crew. Don't leave us hanging too long! ...more

It was a good read forbooks 1 - 4 but book 5, well, I ended up skipping pages. Good ending but the middle was so filled with unneeded description while the ending was rushed. Had planning to read the prequel but not sure about that now.
