I’m a bit sleepy now so pardon me because I’ll probably just be rambling everything out of order on this review but I hope its as clear as I can get it to be.

I’ve seen this book getting raved up on the Internet but didn’t bother to read it since aliens aren’t my cup of tea. But when I saw the movie trailer, I immediately became intrigued.

I Am Number Four was entertaining to read, but was too slow for me. All the action and fighting came at about chapter twenty-eight and this book has thirty-fo I’m a bit sleepy now so pardon me because I’ll probably just be rambling everything out of order on this review but I hope its as clear as I can get it to be.

I’ve seen this book getting raved up on the Internet but didn’t bother to read it since aliens aren’t my cup of tea. But when I saw the movie trailer, I immediately became intrigued.

I Am Number Four was entertaining to read, but was too slow for me. All the action and fighting came at about chapter twenty-eight and this book has thirty-four chapters. Yet, I can’t deny that it got me hooked. Notwithstanding the platitude of “aliens coming to earth and living like us”, the concept was interesting enough.

The characters are okay. Four (I like calling him Four rather than John), aka John Smith, doesn’t sound alien. I couldn’t blame him probably because he’s spent more years on Earth rather than on Lorien. Aside from that, there are times he sounded like a girl. He has this oogly-googly feeling whenever he’s around Sarah. Perhaps he’s just too love-struck but the narration of his feelings seems to better fit a girl’s voice. I like Henri and Sam because they seem to be those who are close to being characters with real personalities. But I do question how Sam got his hands on a gun, I mean he’s a geek for goodness sake; it doesn’t seem to fit in. Sarah, Four’s girlfriend, is underdeveloped. She doesn’t have a solid personality. I also still question what the hell was she doing when the fire at Mark’s (her ex) house during a party happened. No one even questioned it, it’s as if the author put her there just to make a superhero act for Four. The only character that I love from among them is Bernie Kosar!!! He’s adorable! I just love dogs!

Well, that’s about all I can think of with this book. Oh! One more thing, I don’t know if it was done on purpose as a major cliffhanger or it was just unfledged but I feel like Four’s Legacies were wimpy compared to Six’s . At first I thought it was because Four is still discovering his other Legacies but up at the end he seemed to have nothing but light, fire-resistance, telekinesis and animal-speaking powers while Six has dominant powers like invisibility and elemental-control. I waited to see what else he could develop but sadly the book ended. I guess since there’s a 2nd book it means I’ll have my questions answered there.

Anyway, I give this book a 3-star rating because in spite of the flaws I saw, I enjoyed reading it and it still got me hooked to it, and by the end, I was almost in tears for knowing that Four and Sarah had to part ways.

I enjoyed the book, I enjoyed getting to know the characters and watch them develop relationships so I didn’t find the first part of the book boring. The second half picks up with the supernatural side and the action and gets exciting. I feel like I did have some trouble following the final fight scene at the school though, it was a bit confusing at time.

The concept for this book is awesome. As a first-person narrative, John Smith, aka Number Four, is a fugitive on Earth because his home planet, Lorien, was destroyed by another planet's race of Mogadorians. He seems a little discouraged and defeated in the beginning of the book because it's just a day in the life of always moving, travelling, making no friends. The only company he has is his Cêpan, or guardian, Henri. Their relationship seems very genuine and loving, like a father and son (even The concept for this book is awesome. As a first-person narrative, John Smith, aka Number Four, is a fugitive on Earth because his home planet, Lorien, was destroyed by another planet's race of Mogadorians. He seems a little discouraged and defeated in the beginning of the book because it's just a day in the life of always moving, travelling, making no friends. The only company he has is his Cêpan, or guardian, Henri. Their relationship seems very genuine and loving, like a father and son (even though they are not related), which I loved. John remembers little from his home planet, and wants to create a life for himself on Earth. When Number Three is killed, Henri and John move to a small town in Ohio, Paradise. There John meets the love interest, Sarah Hart, and his new friend, Sam, and tries to come to terms with his powers and his future on Earth.

I loved Sam, in the book and in the movie. He was also stuck in a state of being discouraged and defeated, by bullying and by the disappearance of his father, until he meets John, who inspires courage and hope in his new pal. He's a loyal friend who happens to have an obsession with the extra-terrestrial. Duh duh duuuun.

Sarah Hart...how do I put this? She's nice...way too nice. She honestly has no personality for me except that she likes photography and saving homeless animals. I was kind of sick of their romance halfway through the book. Too cutesy and shallow for me. I'm good with a book with very little romance, and for me, I Am Number Four could have done without it, or had a better female lead who wasn't a total airhead. Dianna Agron played a much better (and snarkier) Sarah in the movie.

The action parts were my favourite, especially with John learning how to use his Legacies, or special abilities, that some of the people on Lorien are born with. The movie messes up his powers (boo), and actually forgets one altogether, which is too bad, because it's my favourite. There's an epic battle scene at the end, and the suspense practically kills you beforehand because everything is amped up as John struggles emotionally and physically to stay in Paradise. ...more

Such a beautiful book, amazing Pittacus Lore made me amazed with everything, the whole way I was wanting to know what would happen. Would they get caught? Would they get captured? What would happen next? Where were they going to go next that would be safe? The next book is making me ache of waiting because of Sarah being gone and him traveling around with another person, and a lot of unexpected happenings that happened here, I hope it will be answered in the second book. The book is EPIC !!! And when i say Epic i mean it !!! really loved it and the story is goddamn awesome Till now !! Like the character and the whole alien thing is cool !!
