I'm embarrassed to say that I purposefully avoided Cinder (Lunar Chronicles #1) for a long while. I'm not a fan of the whole Cinderella story being told and retold. Mistake. Big mistake. Cinder (Lunar Chronicles #1) is so deep and so unique that there is barely any way to compare it to Cinderella... or any other book.

Having never read an alien book before this one, I was kind of apprehensive about reading this book because aliens don’t really appeal to me. There was a lot of hype surrounding this book so I decided to give it a go afterall and ended up really enjoying it. ARGH, book 1 kinda ends but doesn't. I liked the setting and I thought it was a good story, although not an implicit retelling of Cinderella, rather an 'inspired by'. Nonetheless good and one I'd recommend to students.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer was a delightfully creepy Cinderella rewrite. Seriously, where else can you read a rewrite that includes cyborgs, future plagues intermixed with lunar colonies and a divergent human species; that actually works for a pleasurable read. This book is a completely fun read and should be enjoyed by many.
