This is the first book I have read by RJ Scott and now that I have a plan on reading many, many more. This story not only combined the elements I so enjoy (science fiction, m/m romance, conflict in relationships, well-developed characters, and lots of emotionality), but it wove all of those elements together seamlessly.

To cross over is a one-way trip and in doing so he will come face to face with his promised mate. Should he consummate that bond, he will die unless his mate accepted the bond and remained with him.
Regan Campbell is a hunter who has kept his life neat and tidy. He has avoided any real connection, seeking to fly under the radar at all costs while hunting the Nameless, creatures who wreak havoc and destruction on humans. When Kian enters his life, his neat and orderly way of living is irrevocably disrupted and altered.

What I loved about Kian: The Fire Trilogy Book 1 is how the plot and the character development carried me on a journey without me ever realizing that it was happening. The conflict rises and ebbs, moving along at a quick pace, never stalling, yet managing to fill in enough detail to keep the story fully fleshed and real. Writing in alternating points of view, Ms. Scott gives the reader insight into the minds of both men as they struggle with their inner emotions, wondering how much of their emotions to reveal. The internal conflict between the risk of admitting how they really feel versus not admitting their true feelings is one of the most delicious aspects of the tension in the book.

For readers who want the sex to scorch their corneas or who want a well-developed ending, this book may fall a bit short. The emotions leading up to intimacy are far more vivid than the intimacy itself. I would have enjoyed a few explicit sex scenes that focused entirely on the physical and emotional throws of the sexual moment. The ending also seemed a bit abrupt. While the loose ends were tied, I believe the ending could have been drawn out , emotions, dialogue, and actions playing out on the page for a while longer so we could really feel the conclusion rather than have it rush up upon us.

Overall Kian: The Fire Trilogy Book 1 is a tale of love, magic, and fulfilling destiny. I certainly plan on reading more from this talented author.

*coughs* Finally I take the time to review this book-- better say the entire trilogy--.

It passed so many time since the day I bought this (the exact day it was released), and finally the 24th of June I decided to read it. ^^;
