Loved this! I re-read it in 2011 for the Snarkfest book club. Re-read in 2021, the new re-issue (with a new Epilogue). Still laugh-out-loud funny. I'm always up for discussion of the funeral industry.

Mary Roach has a great voice and a wonderful way of bringing subjects to life. (Well, not literally, considering the subject of the book.) She treats the discussion of cadavers with respect, but with humor. She really provided an insight into the research and information that cadavers have provided and what may be happening with them. Fascinating book about a fascinating subject.

Despite the gross subject matter, I found this book to be completely fascinating and full of interesting information to ponder. It helped not to actually view the topics and events that were discussed and to instead read Roach's descriptive, respectful writing that brought a welcome touch of humor to keep the reading light and fun. I didn't find the chapters on crucifixion and cannibalism to be quite as strong as the others, and they didn't feel entirely necessary since the topics are merely tan
