Steve Martin provides a captivating look behind the scenes of the art world in this book, and I found an insider's perspective to be completely fascinating. I appreciated the inclusion of the artwork that was mentioned and was impressed with how Martin tied in real world events and detailed their effect on both the characters and the art world. Didn't think the characters nor the plot were interesting at all. The writing was sterile. I did like the nonfiction art elements: the color reproductions, the glimpse into the NY art scene, the art history lessons. ...more

I learned a lot about art and the art would that I never would have otherwise. I think this book would have been a good, not great, read if not for the last two pages, which totally changed the entire perspective for the entire novel for me.
