Beautiful, interesting, engaging, educational, at times horrific and often disturbing this is a wonderful look at the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities, in search of a better life.
Wilkerson tells the over-arching story of the migration through the specific tales of three people. Each of the three are quite different from the others but at the core, their stories are the same story.
