I read this book primarily because it has been one of the most challenged books in American libraries, and I'm always interested in reading challenged and banned books. The Goats tells the story of two teens, referred to mainly as "the boy" and "the girl" through most of the book, who are the victims of a cruel and humiliating camp prank. This is a very quick YA read. I loved the spare prose. I also loved how the adults in this book just didn't "get it," and how the children other than the two main characters were various shades of scary and hard to trust. It all served the "we only have each other" theme of the book. The relationship between the two main characters is very tender.
