I am still a huge Anita Blake fan. This one is the first one that has me divided.

Truly I would give this 3.5 stars. It is the lowest rating I have given an Anita blake book. It simply didn't have enough driving force behind the plot. Did Anita really just spend nearly an entire book in Jean-Claude's bedchambers working out who would be good enough 'food' for the ardour.

I appreciate that all their powers are growing but I usually enjoy watching them all solve how to embrace their powers while An I am still a huge Anita Blake fan. This one is the first one that has me divided.

I appreciate that all their powers are growing but I usually enjoy watching them all solve how to embrace their powers while Anita or someone else deals with a gruesome crime or some other preternatural event at the same time. The whole vampire ballet thing didn't go anywhere except to learn that Richard is still dating humans. And where I normally enjoy the rapid endings and dramatic climax this one still felt a tad messy and didn't gel with the rest of the story I mean where did the problem with Asher even come from and the baby thing that started the whole book gets left in the dust. I felt that there was just a lot of possibly endings and if by random chance this is the one that we got stuck with. I am not going to give up on Anita. I still love most of the crew but this book was just a bit lacking in actual story. It was still steamy as all F#&!

Anita is a bit all over the shop in this one. one minute freaking out about the maybe baby. then worrying about if she needs to add more 'men' to her schedule. has a mini meltdown that she might have trapped Micah and Nathaniel by accident and then ending with a rush of weird paranormal power shit. She didn't really get to kick much arse in this one or solve any crimes or chase any bad guys. maybe that was the problem for me.

Jean - Claude is still amazing, trying to understand Anita and allow her time to be his.
Micah is growing and earning a place in my heart. He really does care for Anita.
Nathaniel, oh he is just too amazing and i loved the line Anita sprouts about him growing into something amazing by the time he is 30 and that it is her job to make sure they are all around to see it.
Richard is back to being a whinging dick. We came so close to them being happy, it only lasted for a few chapters and he is back to confusing everything and being even more a pain in the ares than Anita is for Jean Claude.
