If you are not already addicted to the Anita Series do not start! Please consider this fair warning that her earlier books were great, but the last several have sucked in the writing ability department!

Has LKH's editor taken a time out for the last several books or does everyone just need to get their head out of their ass and be honest with her?! She was a really great author, but now it’s all amateur writing. The flow sucks, there are pettily mistakes, characters say something is going to happ If you are not already addicted to the Anita Series do not start! She was a really great author, but now it’s all amateur writing. The flow sucks, there are pettily mistakes, characters say something is going to happen and then it doesn’t, it’s just pieced together with lots of internal dialog and gibberish. She needs to sit back and let the juices flow, let ideas build up, not force the writing with fillers. I have two big issues (and I say big because I have LOTS of little issues): Anita has this annoying “I’m not good enough, I am the best at everything, I am not a monster-right?” attitude that irritates me; and the constant descriptions of the main characters- I mean come on we know what JC, Micah, and Nathanial look like. These are not stand-alone books.

So, did I buy Affliction- yes. Will I keep buying Anita Blake books---yes, because even though the series has become shit, I have been sucked in with these characters and the storyline and it eats at me to not know the conclusion! So yes I will keep reading and I will keep buying even though I know this feeds into LKH’s big head of thinking she’s still got it, when she clearly doesn’t. I just yearn for the day the series finally ends, unfortunately. However, I will not be sucked into reading any other series or books that LKH writes, I just can’t take the chance of being hooked and then dragged down to the bottom of the ocean to die—like with this series.

I know how the series should end, so maybe pass this on to LKH and she can use it in her next (and hopefully final) book. Richard contracts this disease or spell that makes him angry, jealous, and lethal. He comes in JC’s room to find Anita in the middle of a big sex pile including JC, Nathanial, Micah, and whoever else happens to be in the vicinity. He goes into a jealous rage and he grabs one of Anita’s guns and shoots her in the heart. She is the link that holds everyone together so with her death everyone she is linked to dies (hey they all die together in a big naked pile-what could be better!). Asher sucks up what energy he can and becomes the new King. There, done, and we can all move on with our reading preferences to a better quality author.

First off no hating LKH for her cutesie-pie author's photo on the back! She looks relaxed and happy if a bit self-conscious, wearing the boots that made Jean-Claude famous in Guilty Pleasures. Go LKH! She's trying to lighten up, just like Anita is in this book.Just look at LKH's previous book jackets and see the difference.

I wrote a long review, but my stupid notebook erased just as I completed it. GD! I gave it four stars, so I liked it. I liked it in spite of the usual detractions of an AB vampire book because she kept those distractions, detractors in control, for LKH. The story made sense, it didn't lose steam until the end, but that's most of her later books. Almost all of the action scenes were really exciting, Ed/ Ted was really great- more depth,personality,( except for sociopath talk and talking about why they're friends so much- geez!) learning new things about Micah (though why she forebore to say " Gee I didn't realize my boyfriend's mom is biracial" I don't know. Why the tease?), no out of control ardeur or people feeling drawn to fuck her against their will, a new animal to call without fucking that animal and all his lieutenants into submission, and no unreasonable, bitchytemper! Thank God, she final outgrew that. And INSIGHt into herself! Hallelujah. So while the things that piss the haters off are still there, they are in much less abundance than before. Hell, micah even got to cut his hair. And no Otto! yea!

The sex I didn't like so much, expecially the BDSM. I read it more with horrified fascination than excitement. But I get that it shows how much A can trust a man now and even give up control, which would never have happened just a few books ago.

Like her 10th book Harlequin, this book is all about love. in H, Anita was just beginning to understand about love. in Affliction, she's finally worked through a lot of self-imposed limits and is happy with her love life and those she calls friends. the guys around her encourage her to have healthy behavior. Nicky is like a mother/lover/confessor/boyfriend/conscience. Except for the sociopath part, I love his little insights into A. however, I'm going to get the DSMV and look up the definition of sociopath, they discss it ad nauseum.

LKH didn't pull any punches on the pol amory. And I 'm good with that; she's being honest. Anita has a few interesting things to say about being a person and trying to love. But mainly she is happy and works hard to stay that way. And don't we want our favorite characters to have happy endings?

Just dont expect the next 3 books to be anywhere near as good. That's just the way it goes. One good book, 3 crappy ones, 2 OK ones and then another good one. Oh well. I'll certainly give them a try. I may not fnish them, but I will give them a try. ...more

I loved it! Loved getting more back story on Micah and Nathanial, Jean-Claude AND Edward are present and vital to the story (I only wish Jason had been there...;)). I do get bored during the seemingly very long conversations about feelings, potential feelings, and everything that has happened before this book. I feel that those of us who are reading already know all of that stuff and mostly it is just a waste of time when Anita could actually be doing stuff that moves the story forward. If new r ...more

Even though I finished this book a while ago, I've been putting off the review, because I just wasn't sure what to think. I really did like the book. I love the Anita Blake series. I like that Hamilton can blend suspense, PNR, urban fantasy and a touch of erotica into such complex books. I was a little sad that it was over halfway through the book before we got to any good sex, but it would have definitely been weird to put it in any earlier. This book did not disappoint. Anita travels to be with Micah as he visits his estranged family. His father was infected by something and is expected to die. Because of who Anita is to Jean-Claude and who Micah is, they need permission to travel and to take body guards with them. I waited about a year for the latest in this amazing series. It was definitely worth the wait. Laurell K. Hamilton is an amazing writer and you just find yourself immersed in the world of Anita in a way that not many authors can do. Many favorite characters appear in this latest installment and there is a lovely mix of vampires, zombies, and were-animals. New things are learned, and I eagerly anticipate the next installment in this clever series.

High octane violence and high octane sex...as it should be. I love these books. The only bad thing about them is that they spoil you for other heroines. I feel like a scene isn't complete unless somebody's face gets blown off and the heroine ends up with a **** in her mouth. YEAH! This book started off good and overall I think it was better than the last few that have come out in the series, but there was something about this that just fell flat for me. I felt like a HUGE portion of this book was taken up by just Anita having pissing contests with macho police officers in order to prove she's the biggest bad ass around. It got boring really fast in these parts and I had to drag my way through them.

After the last couple of books I was afraid to come back to the series. But, now I can't wait to read the next one. I felt the structure has gone back to the original format it focuses on the story and no real over the top craziness with the sex scenes. But the one thing I get annoyed with is the final scene it takes like 300-400 pages to get to the final showdown which is only a chapter and the resolution is only 5 pages? Argggh
