Best book of 2010. Jack is a very precocious little boy. He has just turned 5 years old, but his vocabulary is that of a child nearly twice his age. He loves Dora the Explorer, but also the medical dramas of the Discovery Channel. He can read any of his books, but he prefers to have them read to him by his Ma. He loves fruit and hates vegetables. What is so special about Jack? He lives with Ma in an 11 by 11 foot room that has no windows and a locked door, and he has never been outside of it.

The best book I have ever not finished reading. And I will not, and cannot, finish it. Maybe it's because I have small children, but the first chapter completely unnerved me. The thought of a five yr old spending his entire life in a room. I just could not read it. I had to get to the end to find out if and how they escaped. Honestly, if they had not escaped, I would have stopped at chapter 1 and never touched it again. It so disturbed me. But, they escaped and I read it the ending. It may sound

Unique read - I was surprised by the release of emotion that washed over me in the turning point of the book. The author did a great job of revealing complex issues that would arise in the given situation, while remaining true to the just-turned-five narrator. The ending was satisfying without tying everything up with a neat bow.

FABULOUS!
This book left a lot of questions for the reader that were intrinsic in nature. My most burning question was whether or not I could send my child out into the world for the first time alone in order to save our lives. The question becomes at what cost would you sacrifice your child and yourself for the pursuit of your lives. I guess, ultimately, they would have died in Room. I loved the character of the mother, and though almost contrived toward some parts in the middle of the book, it ...more

I read this pretty much in one sitting. It was really a page turner. I didn't care for reading it from the persepctive of a 5 year old though.

For anyone who is thinking of reading this book, I highly recommend the audio version. Room is the story of a woman who is kidnapped and lives in an 11 x 11 room with her son Jack, who was born while in "Room". It's the only life Jack knows and his Ma tries her best to make his life "normal". The voice of Jack is absolutely precious and really adds to the book.

pretty good. could have gone the predictable way, but did not. and also, i love that not all the "good people" are "good".

Unsettling and superbly rendered, this "ripped from the headlines" novel rises above the sordid by offering a candid look at an insular mother-son bond. Jack's voice and observations are spot on, and will give the reader much to mull over. It's a deeply moving book.

Enjoyed this book as an audio book and the recording was great. Couldn't get into reading it from the little boys point of view but it was really good as an audio book.

This is one of the most haunting books I've ever read in my life.
