The ideas in this book are superb, the larger plot is fascinating, and it was monumentally ahead of its time. Having read it, I now fully understand why this book has left an indelible mark on Sci-Fi and been the source of plenty of inspiration since. However, even for its time, the characters are atrociously one-dimensional and uninteresting, the dialogue is as stiff and synthetic as it comes, and in a book where the overwhelming majority of characters are men, it does make me wince that the co ...more

Shelves: sci-fi, 2021

This damn book has been on my TBR since forever. I must've started it and put it back on the shelf around 5-6 times. Why? I don't know, maybe because the writing is rather dry, maybe it is not what I come to expect from sci-fi. Either way, I'm glad I did finish it this time around.

Foundation certainly needs no introductions from me, it is one of the pillars of classic sci-fi and for a good reason. The plot, which spans multiple decades, isn't as much as one story as an anthology of short stories ...more
