I really liked this. To the point that I ended up reading it at pretty much every possible opportunity.
Very happy to discover that book three is due very soon. Gives me time to read book 2 i guess :-)

4.25⭐️ for me on this one. Do not let reviews where they compare this to Hunger Games deter you! Yes there are similarities but there are also differences. Just as Hunger Games is a different version of Battle Royale. As opposed to "districts" there are colors. Gold=Capital, red=12 etc.. The story of a boy Darrow who is red is transformed to a gold to lead and begin a rebellion against the oppressive Golds. He is thrust into this strategic game of command and conquer. I struggled with this book.
It is very well-written, and it is a page-turner. The story is good, but this is where the main problem lies: it is not original.
"Red Rising" is good, but frankly, it is hardly original. Darrow's thirst for revenge is a tale we have heard before, pitting young boys and girls against each other in a mortal conflict too. It may be executed differently and with a different purpose (we'll have to wait for the following books to be sure), but more than simple references, "R ...more

Very enjoyable book... I have a feeling that this is one that will be a movie...

With all the hype around The Hunger Games recently, I did not think this book would bring something new to this style. Boy was I wrong!! This book brings so many different aspects to surface. It was a very enjoyable book and a hard one to put down. Face paced with fun characters and interesting competition. I look forward to the next book.
