SOMEDAY, MR. FRED,
YOU TAKE THIS BOOK,
TURN IT INTO A NOVEL.
EVERYTHING IS THERE.
JUST FILL IN THE DETAILS.
WOULD BE GOOD FOR SOME LAUGHS.
NO. NO, I DON'T THINK SO.
THIS IS A BOOK WOULD BREAK THE HEART.
So using a quote from the movie let lunch in to this.
This is not the movie in book form. After reading this book I understand it is the very essence of term "loosely based on" Yeah there a Holly, and yeah there is a Fred, but now we see a gay man who is stuck with a craving of image of something that is ...more

"Breakfast at Tiffany's" is a entertaining and well written story that kept me interested, but unfortunately not connected with the characters. The characters are all distant and I never really felt that I knew any of them. Yes, that is one of the points to the story, but I WANTED to be connected to someone. I really liked this book. The Holly character was far more complex than the movie. Capote did a great job of using a narrater to tell Holly's story and impart a unique view of this character that brought in additional emotional insight. It was also just a super quick read.

I should have read this a million years ago, having never seen the movie and completely ignorant of the plot line. Quickest summer classic ever - 2 afternoons on the beach and now I know, finally, what all the fuss is about. It was so hard to picture Audrey as Holly but Capote's writing is beautiful. A delight.
