[...]there is no man more terrible in action than a dreamer.
The story is amazing and I understand why musicals and movies are so popular as they don't include Hugo's moralizing, preaching, philosophizing.
I din't mind these parts especially about Waterloo and Paris sewers but I see why some people would call this book dry.
What made me mad in this book is Jean Valjean's martyrdom/masochism and how he and Marius treated Cosette. Or should I say how author treats women in this book?

A few days ago I finished reading "Les Miserables". Finally! Or I should say, I finished reading "Jean Valjean", because I jumped so many passages even the whole chapter of "Waterloo". The novel is wonderful, full of history with the intertwining of fiction. Following the lives and how life can be intertwined, how each decision we make has a consequence and affect further down the road was very enjoyable. I couldn't muster enough courage to read the unabridged version but this one was phenomenal, making the musical a disappointment in many ways for me. I hope you will enter the world of Victor Hugo and embrace the lives he has created there, I'm very glad that I did!
