This book was not what I expected at all. I'm not sure how I feel about it even until now. It's lyrical prose and Emily Bronte's descriptions were very beautiful and it's as if I was living and breathing the story instead of reading about it. Even if it was sometimes difficult to follow the narrators, I applaud the author for the creative use of storytelling. When the books were handed out to my AP Lit class, everyone predicted that this book would be just another Pride and Prejudice. (Which hurt considering how much I adore Pride and Prejudice). But this i very far from Jane Austen's satire. It's a story of two despicable human beings that are completely enraptured with this passion and obsession. I don't fancy Heathcliff in the slightest. It took me at least 10 years to actually finish this book. I love classics, but this book was almost torture until the last 30 pages or so. I do not, and probably will never, understand why so many people rave about this book. The only thing that kept me reading it was so I could finally say I'd finished it, after trying so many times.
